weLOG #53 A Note of Gratitude and Closure

After years of work, reflection, and honest assessment, weMORI is formally closing. This decision comes from the simple reality that we no longer have the capacity or resources required to continue the work with integrity and momentum.
First and foremost, we want to offer a sincere thank you. To everyone who donated, followed along, read the blog, shared our work, or believed in the vision at any point along the way—your support mattered. Even when the project became quieter, your presence did not go unnoticed.
We also want to be transparent about how remaining funds are being handled. The majority of weMORI’s funds were used to cover the necessary operational costs of closing down the organization, particularly related to the Japanese chapter. A portion of the funds was donated to Ape Malaysia, supporting primate conservation efforts. Any remaining balance will be donated to World Land Trust, an organization closely aligned with weMORI’s original mission of land and ecosystem protection.
No funds were taken for personal gain. Beyond modest, agreed-upon administrative costs, all money has been directed toward responsible closure and conservation causes.
While this is not the ending once imagined, it feels important to close with honesty, care, and respect—for the work, for the supporters, and for the values that guided weMORI from the beginning.
Thank you for walking with us on this journey.
With gratitude,
The weMORI Team
